Wimbledon 2025 preview

Wimbledon logo

The Wimbledon Championships is the oldest and, in many opinions, the most prestigious Grand Slam tennis tournament. It is held each June or July (beginning six weeks before the first Monday in August) at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, since 1877, and is the third Grand Slam tournament of the year after the Australian Open and the French Open.

Since the Australian Open moved to hard courts in 1988, Wimbledon has remained the only major tennis tournament still played on its original surface, grass, which is why the game was given its original name, "grass tennis".
The tournament is the only Grand Slam played on grass. Men's and women's singles matches are played, as well as doubles and mixed doubles (male-female doubles). Junior tournaments (singles and doubles) are also played. An additional category of competition is for tennis players over 35 and over 45 years of age.
Wimbledon has a strict dress code for all players. The tournament is also notable for having no sponsors advertising on the court. In 2009, a retractable roof was installed on Centre Court to prevent matches from being interrupted due to rain.
The 2025 Wimbledon Championships will be a Grand Slam tennis tournament and will be held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, from 30 June to 13 July. It will consist of singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Junior, wheelchair and invitational tournaments are also scheduled.
It will be the 138th Wimbledon and the third Grand Slam event in 2025. For the first time in Wimbledon's history, linesmen will be replaced by automated electronic linesmen.
The women's and men's singles finals, held on alternating Saturdays and Sundays, will start at 4:00 p.m. instead of the traditional 2:00 p.m. start, and both finals will now be scheduled as the last matches of the day. Organizers said the changes were aimed at increasing viewership in North and South America.

The defending men's singles champion will be Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, while the defending women's singles champion will be Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic. The tournament winners will receive 2,000 points in the ATP and WTA rankings, and the total prize fund for Wimbledon 2025 is £53,550,000, an increase of 7.0% compared to the 2024 edition. The winners of the men's and women's singles will each receive £3,000,000.
As every year, the arrival of big world stars is expected, as well as the British royal family.. strawberries with whipped cream will be eaten, and cheering for the best, longest and most uncertain matches.
As for the favorites in this tournament, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz comes in as the first favorite, with odds of 2.30 (SoccerBet), followed by Janik Siner with odds of 2.90, and Novak Djokovic, who will also be chasing his record 25th Grand Slam here, with odds of 2.90.
As for the women's competition, there is a bit more uncertainty, but the first favorite is the number 1 tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, with odds of 4.10, followed by Elena Rybakina with odds of 6.75, and Coco Goff, with odds of 7.95.
