This is the last season that will have 16 clubs, because from next year the system will change to 12 clubs. Like last season, the first eight teams will go to the playoffs for the championship title, while the last 8 will play a play-out for survival. The newcomers are Javor from Ivanjica and Radnik from Surdulica. The title is defended by Red Star, which is also the absolute favorite to win the new trophy, which would mean winning the ninth title in a row. Partizan, as the biggest rival, will try to prevent that, and Vojvodina, Radnički from Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, and maybe someone else can mix up the calculations.
As for summer transfers, that is still the most interesting. Whose team will look like is dictated by arrivals and departures. The transfer window lasts until September 19, but many teams already have teams formed. Of course, the biggest focus here is on the eternal rivals, so we will start from there.
Red Star decided to strengthen the defense and Rodrigao (Sochi, Russia), Nair Tiknizyan (Lokomotiv Moscow, Russia) and experienced national team player Miloš Veljković (Werder Bremen, Germany) arrived. As for midfielders, or wings, and strikers, Red Star is still looking for a solution. Milojević will also have Avdić, Lučić, Leković and Pručev at their disposal, who returned from loan. Kabić was returned from loan from Čukarički, but was sent to OFK Belgrade. Sremčević was sent on loan to Lucani, and Fol to OFK Beograd. As for departures, the transfers were made by Gaylor Kanga, to the second division of Turkey, and Milan Rodić, who is currently without a club. Silas returned to Stuttgart, and Lazar Jovanović also went to Germany in a transfer worth 5 million euros. And finally, another transfer, which was expected. Red Star's child, the super talented Andrija Maksimović, was sold to Leipzig for 15 million euros, plus 10% of the next sale. Although it may have been planned that he would stay because of the Champions League qualifications, the Red Star management could not refuse such an offer. As for Partizan, they will have a fairly young team this season, with the aim of creating a team for the years to come. Last night's unfortunate elimination by AEK Larnaca in the first round of the Europa League qualifiers shook these young guys, but they will be comforted by the second round of the Conference League qualifiers against the Ukrainian side Alexandria. The club acquired experienced goalkeeper Marko Milošević from Kragujevac, then Matija Milovanović from Heerenveen, Stefan Milić from Russia and Janis Karabeljov from Plovdiv. The best individual of the last season, and captain, goalkeeper Aleksandar Jovanović, went to the Turkish Koadzeli. Stefan Kovač to Baltik, Šćekić is currently without a club, while Petković is on loan in Novi Pazar. Goh was sold to Gornji Milanovac, Nemanja Nikolić went to Thailand, and Mihajlo Ilić returned to Bologna, as well as Đorđe Jovanović, who was returned to Basel. Dimoski was also returned to Akron, Stevanović is currently without a club, and Bojan Kovačević was sold to Cadiz.
As for the other clubs, there were no notable names or major transfers, but it is worth mentioning the return of experienced goalkeeper Vladimir Stojković to Radnički from Kragujevac. Another experienced player, defender Nenad Tomović, returned from Cyprus and took over the Čukarički jersey. It was also interesting in Pančevo, where Železničar brought in a former Radnički player from Niš, Crvena zvezda and Čukarički, from where Stefan Mitrović also arrived, and the experienced Seka Sanogo and El Fardu Ben left the club, as well as Petar Gigić, while Matija Mitrović was sold to the Portuguese Guimaraes in the club's biggest transfer since Tamiš.
The first match is tonight at 8pm in Novi Pazar, where the hosts will host Radnički from Kragujevac. This should be a treat, and a match between teams that will play in the European qualifiers. Both sides are hoping to win the opening match and repeat the successful games from last season. Champion Red Star will host newcomers from Ivanjica, Javor, tomorrow at 8pm as a test match before the start of the Champions League qualifiers next Tuesday. At the same time, Čukaricki and Napredak will also take to the field, at Banovo Brdo. On Sunday, all matches also start at 8pm. Vojvodina will host Radnik from Surdulica in Novi Sad, TSC will host Radnički from Niš, Mladost will host IMT in Lučani, and Partizan will arrive in Pančevo. The last match of the first round is scheduled for Monday at 8pm, when OFK Beograd will host Spartak from Subotica.
