The seventeenth European Handball Championship will be held in Denmark, Sweden and Norway from January 15th to February 1st. The matches will be played in 4 venues located in 4 cities (1 each in Denmark and Norway and 2 cities in Sweden). The championship will feature 24 national teams, as in previous championships.
The first men's EHF European Handball Championship was the 1994 EHF EURO in Portugal, where 12 teams competed for the honours.
For the first time, 24 teams took to the field in Sweden, Austria and Norway in 2020. The 14th EHF European Championship was also the first final tournament to be hosted by three different nations.
In total, six different nations have won the men's EHF EURO to date. Sweden leads the medal table with five gold medals, but France is close behind, having won four EHF EUROs to date, including 2024. Spain, Denmark and Germany have each won two championships; Russia has topped the podium once.
Sweden has won the most gold medals, with 5 in total, followed by France with 4, who are also defending their European champion title.
The matches of this championship will be played at Telenor Arena, Oslo, Norway, Jisk Bank Boksen, Herning, Denmark, Kristianstad Arena, Kristianstad, Sweden and Malmö Arena, Malmö, Sweden.
In Group A, Germany, Spain, Austria and Serbia will fight for the passage.
Group B consists of Denmark, Portugal, North Macedonia and Romania.
In Group C, France, Norway, Czech Republic and Ukraine will play.
In Group D, Slovenia, Faroe Islands, Montenegro and Switzerland.
In Group E, Sweden, Croatia, Netherlands and Georgia will play.
And the last group, Group F, will consist of Hungary, Iceland, Poland and Italy.
The group stage will last until 21 January, and after the group stage, two new groups of six teams will be formed, from which the top two advance to the semi-finals, and the two third-placed teams will compete for fifth place.
From the group stage, the top two teams will advance to the next groups. The semi-finals are scheduled for 30 January, while the final is scheduled for 1 February at the Jisk Bank Boksen Arena in Herning.
The absolute favorite, according to the bookmakers, is one of the hosts, Denmark, with odds of 1.34 to win the championship. The second is Sweden with odds of 6.95, while France is in third place with odds of 9.45. As for the Balkan teams, Croatia is the best, with odds of 34 to win, while the total outsiders are Ukraine, Georgia and Romania.
