The rumors started before the Final Four, and now it's official - 20 teams will play in the Euroleague next season, including Red Star Belgrade and Partizan, who received three-year contracts. The agreement was reached at the Euroleague meeting in Abu Dhabi, and has now been confirmed by a vote of the clubs. Next season, there will be 38 rounds on the schedule and a total of 10 doubleheaders will be played. Three-year licenses for Red Star and Partizan will cost less than previously announced - 750,000 euros per season, or a total of 2,250,000 for three years. There were announcements that Serbian clubs could find themselves in a situation where they would have to pay five million euros each for a three-year license, but the other side of the coin was clearly successfully presented – how much full stands at Partizan and Red Star games mean for the Euroleague. In addition to the 750,000 euros per season that they will pay for the license, Red Star and Partizan also have the same costs as all other clubs – 250,000 per year for refereeing.
In the past few weeks, the Belgrade eternals have been on a joint “diplomatic offensive”, the main work was done during the Final Four in Abu Dhabi, which was attended by Red Star Belgrade president Željko Drčelić and Red and Whites director Nemanja Vasiljević, while the Black and Whites were represented by Zoran Savić and Željko Obradović. Compared to last season, the new members of the Euroleague will be Dubai, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Valencia. Alba is missing, having opted for the FIBA Champions League. This means that next season, in addition to Partizan and Red Star Belgrade, we will see Efes, Monaco, Baskonia, Olimpia Milano, Barcelona, Bayern, Fenerbahce, Asvel, Maccabi, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Paris, Real Madrid, Virtus, Žalgiris, Hapoel Tel Aviv as Eurocup winners, and then Valencia and Dubai, who will join as two new clubs after the competition's expansion.
The new season starts as usual in October.
