The youngest European competition, the third-tier Conference League, will begin tonight, when all 18 matches will be played, with nine matches starting at 6:45 PM, while the remaining nine will be scheduled for 9:00 PM. This is the fifth season of the UEFA Conference League, the third largest club football competition in Europe organized by UEFA.
This will be the second UEFA Conference League to be played in the new format that includes a league stage with 36 teams. The new format also does not allow teams to move from the Europa League or knockout stages to the knockout stages of the Conference League, and therefore the defending champions of the Conference League (Chelsea) cannot defend their title, as the winner of the Conference League automatically qualifies for the league stage of the Europa League. However, Chelsea had already qualified for the 2025/26 Champions League group stage before winning the Conference League thanks to their league position, so the automatic Europa League spot was not used.
The final will be played at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany. The winner will automatically qualify for the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League group stage, unless they qualify for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League or Europa League based on their league results. In that case, the list of participants will be rebalanced.

Lech-Rapid
Lech started the Champions League qualifying campaign this season, but were eliminated in the third round by Red Star Belgrade, and then they were better than Genk in the Europa League play-offs. They are not doing well in the championship either and it will be extremely difficult for them to defend their title this season. Rapid started from the second round of the Conference League qualifiers, and both matches were won by Montenegrin Dečić. In the third round, they overcame Dundee United in two games, and in the play-offs, they lost to Győr in the first game with 2:1, but they won at home with 2:0 and deservedly qualified for the competition. Rapid is currently at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga and tonight they have a real chance of avoiding defeat.

Omonia-Mainz
Omonia started the qualifiers from the second round, where they defeated Torpedo Kutaisi both times, and then in the third round they faced Araz, whom they convincingly defeated with a total score of 9:0 in two games. In the play-offs they were drawn against Wolfsberger, and although the Austrians won the first leg 2-1, Omonia won the second leg 2-0 and advanced to the group stage. Their opponent tonight will be Mainz of Germany, who qualified for the Conference League play-offs via the Bundesliga, in which they played against Rosenborg. The Norwegians won 2-1 at home, but in Germany Mainz showed all their strength and qualified for this year's Conference League group stage with 4-1.

Celje-AEK
Celje started this year in Europe from the first round of the Europa League qualifiers, where they were better than Sabah in two games, but were stopped by AEK Larnaca in the next round, so they advanced to the third round of the Conference League qualifiers, where they even beat Lugano away with 5:0, only to lose at home with 4:2 and advance. In the play-off phase, they eliminated the Czech Ostrava with two wins. Their opponent in the first round is the Greek AEK, who have strengthened compared to last year and are slight favorites to triumph tonight. AEK was better than Hapoel Beer Sheva in the second round of the qualifiers, and in the third round they overcame Aris from Limassol, and finally in the play-off, the Greeks were better than Anderlecht.

Slovan Bratislava-Strasbourg
Slovan Bratislava, as the champion of the Slovak league, began its campaign in Europe in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers. There, they were better than Zrinjski in two games, and then they were eliminated by Kairat, which secured them a place in the Europa League play-offs, but Young Boys stood in their way, so Slovan had to settle for the youngest European competition. Their opponent is Strasbourg, who are one of the favorites for the trophy this season and who had a two-legged tie with Brondby in the Conference League play-offs.
