Like last season, 36 clubs will compete in the group stage. The eight best teams will directly qualify for the round of 16, while the teams from 9th to 24th place will play two knockout stage matches, and the winners will advance to the round of 16.
The final of this season will be held on May 30, 2026 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
The title is defended by the French PSG, who defeated Inter Milan 5-0 in the final and finally won the coveted trophy that they have long wanted and chased. PSG, along with Liverpool and Barcelona, are in the narrowest circle of candidates to win the trophy this season. There are also Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City... the teams that are given the least chance of winning the title, with odds of 1000 and above, are Qarabag, Slavia Prague and Kairat Almaty.
This season we will have four clubs that will debut in the Champions League.
The first of them is Bodo/Glimt, a Norwegian club that has dominated the league for years, and their main goal all these years has been to qualify for the Champions League. Last year they reached the play-offs, but although they won the first leg 2-1, they lost 2-0 away in the second leg and thus missed out on the Champions League, but they played a great season in the Europa League and even reached the semi-finals. This season they only played in the play-off round against Sturm Graz. In the first leg in Norway they sent the visitors away with a score of 5-0, in the second leg they lost 2-1, but they achieved their original goal and are now in the most elite European competition.
The champion of Kazakhstan, Kairat, has finally reached the Champions League. The club, which has been in existence for 71 years, will play in the most elite European competition for the first time. And they reached the group stage after going through all four qualifying rounds. In the first leg they defeated Slovenian Olimpija with a combined score of 3-1 over two legs. In the second round, they played against the Finnish champions, KUPS, and lost the first game 2-0, but won the second leg 3-0 and advanced to the third qualifying round. There, they faced Slovan Bratislava. They won the first game by a narrow 1-0 margin, but lost the second leg by the same score and advanced to the play-offs after penalties. And there, they accomplished perhaps their greatest feat. They faced the famous Celtic. The first game in Glasgow ended goalless, as did the second leg in Kazakhstan. Extra time also failed to produce a winner, so it went to penalties, which Kairat won in their favor, mostly thanks to the reserve goalkeeper who saved three penalties. Now they are calmly awaiting their first games in the Champions League and will certainly try to put on another spectacle for their fans.
The third debutant is Paphos from Cyprus. The club, which was founded 11 years ago, has achieved incredible success. The season before last, they won the Cyprus Cup, and announced new great results, which was shown the next season, when the first title in the club's short history was won, and that title enabled them to qualify for the Champions League. They skipped the first round thanks to the coefficient, and in the second they were better than Maccabi Tel Aviv with an aggregate score of 2:1. Although they were complete outsiders in the third qualifying round, they defeated Dynamo Kiev in both games and thus secured the play-offs. And there they were waiting for the favored Red Star, and the first game in Belgrade. However, the Cypriots were not afraid, they started bravely, took the lead in the first minute, and won that game 2:1. The second leg was much more difficult. Red Star scored a goal in the second half and had the advantage and extra time in sight until the 89th minute, when Jaja scored a brilliant volley-lob to make it 1:1, and the big celebration could begin. Although they are among the weakest teams in the Champions League, it is certain that this legion of foreigners will try to make another great result.
And the latest debutant is the Belgian champion, Union SG. They have earned a direct place in the group stage after winning the league title. The club, which has existed for 127 years, is playing in football's best competition for the first time. This will be the writing of new history for the club, and the Belgians are a serious opponent, so with a little luck they can hope for a good placement.
This week is all about the Champions League, as the matches will be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There will be six matches on the program each day. And your Odds Kings have prepared for you an analysis of the first six matches as well as betting suggestions for each match scheduled for tomorrow. And on Wednesday and Thursday on our website you will have analyses and suggestions for betting on the matches scheduled for those days.
Today, from 18:45h, we have two matches.
The season will open with a duel between Athletic Bilbao and Arsenal, at San Mames. Arsenal have an even stronger team than last season, and it can be said that they will be the shadow favorites for the Champions League trophy. However, the first match is extremely difficult, and the atmosphere in Spain can be very hot, so Arteta's team will have to try very hard to win three points.
Our suggestion is 1pol 0-1 & 2pol 1+ @ 1.65 MozzartBet
At the same time, we will also watch the neighborhood derby. Dutch PSV will host debutants, Union SG, at their Philips Stadium. Although they are the favorites in this duel, it will not be easy for the red and whites to achieve a triumph, because the guests from Belgium are a very tough and disciplined team that concedes few goals, and in the previous four matches they have kept a clean sheet.
Our suggestion is gg3+ @ 1.85 MozzartBet
Real Madrid have made a very successful start to their title campaign in Spain, which is a maximum of four games. The most successful club in the history of the Champions League will play their first game tomorrow at 9pm at their Santiago Bernabeu, with Olympique Marseille as the host. Although it will not be an easy task, the Madrid team wants to win all three points at the season opener.
Our suggestion is 1&2-4 @ 1.85 MozzartBet
The derby of the day will be in Italy. Juventus, who are at the top of Serie A with all three wins from the first three rounds, will welcome Borussia Dortmund to Turin. Dortmund have also been playing quite well at the start of the season, and their last defeat before the start of the season came in a friendly match against Juventus. Although the "old lady" is the favorite in this duel, we believe that it will be a very uncertain game, and let's hope with as many goals as possible.
Our suggestion is 1 @ 2.05 MozzartBet
The easiest job, at least on paper, will be for Portugal's Benfica. The Lisbon team is currently undefeated this season, although they made a mistake on Friday at home against Santa Clara, where they won only one point, despite leading 1-0 until injury time, when, due to an error by Otamendi, Santa Clara equalized. Qarabag are not playing great in their league this season, and we will see if they can manage to get a positive result in this match.
Our suggestion is 1pol 1-2&3+ @ 2.30 MozzartBet
The last match on the program tomorrow will see the Europa League winner, Tottenham, and Spanish Villarreal. The "Singers" almost took the UEFA Super Cup trophy in the season opener, as they were 2-0 up against PSG, and in the end they squandered that advantage, it came down to penalties where they lost. In the Premier League, three wins without conceding a goal, and a defeat at home to Bournemouth, which is satisfactory compared to last season. Villarreal started well in the league, but are now two games without a win and a positive result from London would mean a lot to their confidence.
Our suggestion is 1 @ 1.90 MozzartBet
