This is the 114th edition of this Australian tournament, and the 58th in the so-called Open Air. This tournament is the first major tournament of the year, and also the first Grand Slam tournament of the season. As always, it is played on a hard surface.
The defending champions are Janik Siner in the men's competition and Madison Keys in the women's competition. The Italian is the favorite to defend the title, with odds of 1.73, while the first runner-up is the expected finalist, Carlos Alcaraz, who has odds of 2.50 to win. In the women's competition, the first favorite is Arina Sabalenka with odds of 2.50, while the second favorite is Iga Svyatek, whose winning odds are 6.75. Venus Williams became the oldest participant of this Grand Slam, because she will compete in singles, at the age of 45.
The prize pool for this year's tournament is a record 111,500.00 Australian dollars.
The tournament was first held in 1905 in Melbourne. From its foundation until 1927, it was called The Australasian Championships, and that year the name was changed to The Australian Championships. In 1969, it got its current name. Then it became an open championship, where both amateurs and professionals could play, joining the "Open era", which started a year earlier.
In the beginning, the tournament did not attract many competitors due to weak ties with foreign countries, but also within the continent itself. With the development of traffic, especially air, by the sixties of the 20th century it became more frequented by both competitors and spectators.
From its foundation until 1988, the tournament was played on grass, and since then on hard surfaces. That year it was also moved from Kuyang Stadium to Melbourne Park, where it is still held today. Several cities have hosted the tournament throughout history (Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Christchurch, Hastings), although it has mostly been held in Melbourne.
In the early years of the tournament, the month of the tournament changed, moving from January to August. Due to the First World War, it was not held from 1916 to 1919, and due to the Second World War from 1941 to 1945. From 1923 to 1977, the tournament was played every year in January, and that year it was moved to December, and therefore two tournaments were played in one calendar year. In 1987, the tournament was moved back to January and therefore the December 1986 schedule was not held.
Novak Djokovic won 10 titles in this tournament, which is the record of this competition. In the women's competition, it is Margaret Court with 11 titles won. In the night after us, all the big favorites recorded triumphs, while the only surprise was the Italian Coboli, who was the 20th seed, and who lost 3-0 to the qualifiers.
We have prepared several betting suggestions for you tonight.
Marosan-Rinderknetz
Marosan is in better shape at the moment, but the mutual score is 1-1. The last match, won by the French, with 2-0, was played in October, and both sets ended after a tie-break. Something similar should be expected from this meeting as well. The chances of both players winning are 50-50, but we should certainly expect many games and possibly five sets.
Our suggestion is UG + 40.5 @ 1.90 MozzartBet
Djere-Wawrinka
Stan Wawrinka received a wild card to participate in this competition. The former Grand Slam winner has entered his 41st year, but is still in solid form, although he is currently 139 on the ATP list. Laszlo Djere is currently 91st on the ATP list. This player is 10 years younger than his rival, and won the last meeting two years ago, and that on a hard surface. Before that, the Swiss won two duels, and this will be their first meeting at the Grand Slam. Taking everything into account, we should also expect a match with more than three sets here.
Our suggestion is UG 39.5 + @ 1.65 MozzartBet
Manarino-Hidjikata
The French veteran at the age of 37 still plays good tennis, and occupies the 69th position on the ATP list. He has lost nine in a row before this match and will have a very difficult task to advance to the next round because his opponent is a local player, who is ranked 115th in the ATP list, but is 13 years younger than his rival and defeated him last year also on hard court. In the first meeting, three years ago, he celebrated Manarino, and this will be the first meeting at the Grand Slam.
Our suggestion is 2 @ 1.60 MozzartBet
